The LightPot Prototype

What a great idea! A minimalist table lamp, with a bed of soil for tending to small, green lifeforms:

lamp pot

This unique pot/light has LED lights and collapses down on itself when not in  Unfortunately it’s still a prototype, but there are big plans to make this baby retail soon.

Digging that concept! I’d like to know if those are proper halogen light bulbs which induce growth though..

Hey Chris, I think they are just low powered LED bulbs. Something tells me the “Pot” in “LightPot” really does refer to the container. Growth inducing halogens might be overkill for a little wheatgrass? Did you ever watch the episode of Weeds where they stole the church cross and used it to grow pot?

I guess they used LEDs to avoid excess heat on the leaves, which would result in less requirement for water and thus allowing for growth. They’re really great, I wish there was more innovation in Cape Town when it comes to interior design.

Did you check my new pot plant? Here’s the link.. http://imod.co.za/index.php/2009/04/13/new-item-for-a-cape-town-flat-by-chris-m/ :)

I wonder if we have any readers who would give it a bash and try to make their own home brew of the LightPot?

@Chris Nice pot plant! I really like the red – let us know where you finally settle on placing it?

Did you ever see my new bonsai tree? I think it’s ready for a trim soon!
