Weekend Snapshots

The girlfriend and I bought ourselves Nike Cross Trainers about six months ago – we had the best intentions to finally get fit (at least she looks it!). This weekend we whipped them out and got to some brisk walking and a short jog on both Sat and Sun – it’s impressive, it really is!

Keeping with the theme of health we decided a salad would be the most complimentary lunch to our new health kick. No better place for that than Life in Sandton Square. They have this salad buffet with a huge variety of goodies to choose from and you’re surrounded by all the awesome furniture of the interior store alongside the restaurant.

There’s this chair I’ve been in love with for ages… it’s a massive tree trunk that’s been carved out and stained and surprisingly comfortable. It’s been there for the last two years and I’m convinced it will be mine some day!

Thirty-odd thousand bucks?! It's much bigger in person. I swear.

After lunch it’s predictable that Lauren will be lured into stores to find a fashion pick for the week. This time it was a cute little 70′s looking thing. Flared shorts and a top in one – Sexy!

Later that evening we went to Piza é Vino to celebrate an engagement. The food was pretty decent and they offer this spicy little soup on arrival with bread. I had the carpaccio followed by a rump steak. The only problem with the place was the over-eager waiters and their lack of respect for personal space. I found myself having to duck and watch my back as plates and trays swung within inches of my pip. Also, tables that are barely big enough to accommodate huge dishes can cause a problem when you have 10 people eating a three course meal! Their overall vibe was great though…

Sunday was a lazy day and as usual I needed my braai fix! This time I tried a balsamic & rosemary fillet recipe found online which included garlic, olive oil and honey (I’ll post that up in a couple of days for you to try).

Fresh rosemary from the garden - the spice of life!

The ribs and corn crashed the braai party and, like Nigella, I’ll probably be snacking late into the night considering the girlfriend is a vegetarian. Luckily I had some assistance from my little helper

Sunday Braai

Lucky for the sausage there was no room left on the braai!

All in all a great weekend that’s put me in a great mood to take on the week ahead!
