Book Launch: Ronnie Apteker’s Funny Business

Last night, the girlfriend and I sped across town to get to the launch of dear friend, Ronnie Apteker’s, book launch at Exclusive Books in Hyde Park. We’ve never really been to a book launch, so weren’t too sure what to expect, especially considering I was given a copy of the book almost two weeks ago at Internetix.

Ronnie Apteker's Funny Business

The accidental entrepreneur reveals his secrets!

Nevertheless, it turned out to be a fun little doo with loads of old friends gathered together to support the accidental entrepreneur and Gus Silber (the author). Both made a small speech, people raised their bottles and fanatics queued to get an autograph from the boys…

Exclusive Books Hyde Park

Quite the crowd - would love to know the net worth!

Shoulders were rubbed with the likes of Jeremy Ord from Didata, the rockstars from Mann Made Media, Mr Rex from Randgo and Cream Cartel’s Guy Ndlovu.

As for the book – it’s great fun and shares secrets like “why the entrepreneur, like a comedian, needs to close a deal every 15 seconds” through a variety of personal stories. Best you get your own copy for the nitty gritty!

African Artist: Ntuli Ndabuko

I’m a supporter of the local arts, so every now and then I like to expose a previously disadvantaged artist that I think does incredible work. This time round it’s a gent by the name of Mr Ndabuko who’s work speaks for itself…

Ntuli Ndabuko Painting

"Group of Gals"

Ntuli Ndabuko was inspired by his grandfather (a painter and sculptor) and began painting and sketching both at school and while looking after cattle on the rising slopes of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Ntuli Ndabuko Painting

"Male Nguni Head"

When he came to Johannesburg he was encouraged to continue creating art and landed up at the JHB Art Foundation where he perfected his skills as one of the only black artists who painted with a palette knife.

"Panel Family Returns"

Ntuli later became royalty when he hooked up with the daughter of Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu (the reigning king of the Zulu nation under the traditional leadership clause). He is also a sought after sangoma – Nice one!

"Standing Masai"

As one of the greatest previously disadvantaged artists in South Africa, he chooses to reside in a township in JHB and displays his works at the Gerald A Lee Gallery in Norwood, Johannesburg. Click here to see his portfolio.

The Wildest Dream in IMAX soon

In 1924, a bloke named George Mallory was last seen 800 feet below the summit of Everest

I will conquer this mountain first!

I will conquer this mountain first!

75 years later his death is still stunning the world – in particular a climber named Conrad Anker – who’s life became intertwined with Mallory’s when he found his frozen body with all his belongings intact. The only thing missing was a photograph of his wife, Ruth, which Mallory had promised to place on the summit.

Conrad returns to Everest to unravel the mystery.

Conrad returns to Everest to unravel the mystery.

This theatrical feature, directed by Anthony Geffen, was released by National Geographic Entertainment in August 2010.

It’s going to be coming to an IMAX theatre in SA soon, so in the mean time watch the trailer here and tell us: would you ever climb Everest?

Discovery Leadership Summit 2010

You’re bound to see this branding around town in the coming months:

Discovery Leadership Summit 2010

It’s the second Discovery Leadership Summit to be held in SA and I’m still regretting the fact that I never attended the event in 2009! I missed Branson and Gladwell lined up with other global business leaders and I won’t do it again!

So this year I’m going to the event come hell or high water because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to engage! And two of the several speakers are people I’ve wanted to hear for ages; Rudy Guiliani (former mayor of NYC) and Johann Rupert (Chief Executive of Richemont Luxury Brands)!

If you don’t know who these blokes are, best you check out the event web site and get on with making a plan to be there! Do it!

The Stuntman

Introducing The Stuntman

Some say his left testicle could have saved the Titanic from sinking!

The Stuntman

All we know for sure is that when he’s not occupied by his quest to have the fastest Subaru on earth, The Stuntman enjoys hours of Guitar Hero on XBox, Lamb braais and long walks on the beach.

His superpower lies in his ability to take a damaged car and have it back to you spick and span within 7 days (Go VIP Panelbeaters!).

He currently holds the world record for drinking the most Jaeger-bombs in a single evening and will try anything at least once. That includes skydiving, break dancing and that “slide across the floor on your feet” move from Risky Business. He has broken the same toe trying the latter two.

Make way for The Stuntman, our latest addition.

The Broker

The Broker

This is The Broker. Chat to him if you need to get your hands on some high quality gold bars. In addition to being a master deal maker he has walked on burning coals (without shoes or flip flops) and can be spotted in Sandton Square smoking fine tobacco with Nelson Mandela each day.

He has no doubt earned himself a degree in pimpology which is evident by the numerous ladies who have certified him (pictured after the link below)…

Lauren my Girlfriend

So I figured that if I am going to be referring to someone on iDale I should at least have the manners to send them some link love or show you who they are. Pictured above is the gorgeous girlfriend Lauren. This pic was taken for Cleo mag, but we never found it published (stupid twats!). As you can see she has incredible long thick hair amongst many other amazing attributes.
