Volkswagen Advert Misses the Mark

What you see here is a new semi-brilliant advert from Volkswagen…

It’s for the new R32 performance Golf and I think the concept is fantastic – a politically correct gang of young gents (and their dog) are terrified to get their soccer ball out of the street in case a Golf R32 comes roaring past and knocks them over.

Problem for me is that the boys don’t really look that terrified. Actually they look like they’ve been staring at their ball for the better half of the day as if Michael Jackson was about to suddenly pop out?!

I think the advert would have been far more effective if one of the boys were leaning forward looking down the stretch of road contemplating taking the chance!

BMW: Negligence Update

After ringing JSN twice and posting a complaint on BMW’s web site, I finally got confirmation that BMW On Call would come this morning to my office to replace the missing wheel nut that some workshop chimp removed during my service last week.

The gentleman called me when he arrived and attended to my car before I even got to the parking lot – impressive! Not only was he polite, he also ensured that he would escalate the issue and have someone call me later on in the day to discuss the issue with me.

I’m hoping they decide to donate an M6 to my worthy cause, but something tells me the odds are slimmer than Zuma making an intelligent statement.

I must say that the problem has been attended to swiftly. I’m now wondering how often BMW head office checks their email and responds to complaints they receive through their site. SO far nothing from them…

Doing One’s Nut with BMW

Nut: A small flat piece of metal, typically square or hexagonal, with a threaded hole through it for screwing onto a bolt as a fastener.

Without said nut fastening the wheel pictured above, plenty could go wrong. So I would like to ask WHO at JSN BMW in Sandton will be taking the wrap for failing to replace said nut when I took my car in for a service last week???

I’m a fairly lenient guy and I’ll accept a missing screw cover or something like that, but when it comes to customer safety I will not tolerate this sort of negligence. It’s not like a wheel has 100 bolts. It has 5!!!

This means I have been driving around for almost a week with a 1 in 5 chance of having my wheel fall off my car. I’ll keep you updated…
